The Popular Democratic Movement's (PDM) leader McHenry Venaani has questioned why the Leader of the Official Opposition in the National Assembly Immanuel Nashinge has not yet been allocated an official vehicle, more than a year after assuming office.
Venaani accused the Ministry of Works and Transport of “playing politics with institutions”, arguing that all senior office bearers are entitled to government vehicles.
Responding, Minister of Works and Transport Veikko Nekundi said the delay was due to a government moratorium on the procurement of new vehicles, which affected allocations across the administration.
He revealed that two second hand vehicles a Toyota Prado and a Toyota Fortuner were offered to the opposition leader but were declined.
Nekundi said a new batch of vehicles is expected to arrive soon and assured the House that the matter will be resolved once the consignment is received.
