Heavy rains recorded in the Hardap Region this week have brought relief to farmers, but the downpours left some houses under water at farm Hoppiegarden in the Hardap Region.

When the NBC News team arrived at the time, the farmers were mopping up the rainwater and assessing the damage left behind by the rainstorm.

One of the affected farmers, Ricky Witbooi, said the farm received 66 millimetres of rain accompanied by strong wind in just less than two hours.
He added this is the first heavy rain that fell at the farm in fifteen years.

"We just saw water rushing into the house, and upon inspecting where it was coming from, we realised the whole area was flooded. When I put on the flashlight, there was water everywhere. I thought maybe a dam wall had burst its banks."

Witbooi said only one sheep died as a result of the heavy downpours. No human lives were lost or injuries recorded.
Unofficial reports indicated the rains recorded in both the Hardap and ||Kharas regions washed away some sections of gravel roads, resulting in temporary closures.

The affected roads include the C11 gravel road between Aroab and Karasburg in the Lovedale farm area as well as the gravel road between Gibeon and Gochas.

Rivers normally dry for most of the year were also flowing after the heavy downpours.
