The Chief of the Namibian Defence Force, Air Marshal Martin Pinehas, conferred the substantive rank of Major General on Remigius Kalimba.

A Major General is the second-highest rank in the Namibian Defence Force.

Accepting the appointment, Major General Kalimba emphasised the importance of the department he's heading.

"This directorate is charged with a huge responsibility in the Namibian Defence Force; among others are: ⁃ Developing the defence force strategic plans. ⁃ Maintenance of combat capabilities and readiness ⁃ Internal and External Commitments, Identification of required military equipment, coordination of joint combat training, and last but not least, liaison with civil authorities and regional, continental, and international organisations, just to mention a few. In one word, ladies and gentlemen, this is the coordinating heart of the whole defence force."

A long-serving member of the NDF, Major General Kalimba vowed to grow the field and meet the set standards and targets of the Department of Joint Operations, where he previously served as a deputy.

Major General Kalimba attended different military courses, including the United Nations Military Observer Course, the Advanced Map Reading Course and the Counter-Intelligence Course, among others.
