The Zambezi independence preparatory committee is all systems go for Saturday's celebration at Bukalo, with invitations having been extended to neighbouring countries.

As part of the role neighbouring countries played during Namibia's liberation struggle, the Zambezi

region says that delegates from Zambia and Botswana are expected to join the region in celebration of

Namibia's 36th independence anniversary.

The head of information and communication in the region's preparatory committee is Alex Sikume.

"We have extended invitations to all our residents, and we also extended invitations to our

neighbouring countries, those delegates to come join us, so we are expecting some delegates from

Zambia, and Botswana to come join us in celebration."

Bukalo, located about 45 kilometres southeast of Katima Mulilo, was chosen as the host town for this year's

regional celebrations.

Sikume said transport is arranged to ferry people from Katima Mulilo Open Market to Bukalo; however, only two trips will be made.

While the official programme is expected to commence at 9 am, residents are advised to arrive early, in time to enjoy the various planned performances.
