Deputy Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs (MoDVA), Charles Mubita, motivated a N$1.52 billion budget for the vote of Veteran Affairs for the 2026-2027 financial year.

Dr Mubita said this budget will be aimed at improving the welfare of liberation struggle veterans and preserving Namibia's history.

Presenting the allocation, Dr Mubita outlined three key programmes that will guide spending.

The Veterans Welfare Programme received the largest share, with N$1.38 billion allocated.

The programme focuses on coordinating the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of initiatives aimed at improving the livelihoods of veterans of the liberation struggle.

This programme is aimed at preserving Namibia's liberation history through research and documentation, collection of artefacts, and the identification and marking of historical sites.

Funds will also support funeral assistance for deceased veterans.

"For the fiscal year 2026-2027, the programme is allocated an amount of N$13 million for funeral assistance to families of deceased veterans, erection of tombstones, identification and marking of heritage sites, including a summation and re-interment of the remains of the matas. Programme three, policy coordination and support services. This is to ensure effective administration and personnel support to this programme. The ministry has been allocated an amount of N$1 million in total. This is supposed to be N$100 milion in total. This is supposed to be N$100 million toward the payment of personnel expenditure and administrative activities for Board 31 veteran affairs. The ministry remains committed to implementing programmes that enhance veterans' socioeconomic well-being while preserving Namibia's liberation heritage."

Meanwhile, Policy Coordination and Support Services will receive funding to ensure effective administration and personnel support within the ministry, with an allocation of over N$126 million.
