The body of a man, suspected to have died by suicide, has been discovered along the Swakopmund coastline.

A passerby walking along the beach south of the Swakopmund jetty discovered the body early this morning after it washed ashore around 9:00.

According to police, the deceased had been reported missing since 31 March.

An eyewitness account indicated that the man, dark in complexion, wearing grey trousers and a grey jacket and carrying a backpack, was last seen at the jetty.

Moments later, alarm was raised after reports that he allegedly jumped into the ocean.

The witness reportedly saw the man in the water before he disappeared beneath the waves.

A backpack containing an Oshikundu bottle, a Chinese-made radio, and scrap materials was found at the scene. No identification documents were discovered.

The victim's identity remains unknown. Police are calling on any family who have lost a male relative fitting this description to urgently contact Swakopmund Police Station or the nearest police station.

Police investigations are ongoing.
