Former Keetmanshoop magistrate Unchen Konjore has refused to provide her telephone records, bank statements, and travel and accommodation records to the legal team of Lucia Hamana, who is suing her for N$500,000.
Hamana alleges that Konjore had her arrested and ordered her to pay child maintenance beyond her means while presiding over a maintenance case involving Hamana and her former husband.
She further claims that Konjore was in a relationship with her former husband at the time of the proceedings and did not take her financial situation into account when issuing the maintenance order.
Hamana’s lawyer, Florian Beukes, has asked the court to compel Konjore to disclose the records, stating that the information may confirm or refute the alleged relationship.
Konjore has denied the allegations.
Through her legal representatives, she argues that the requested records are privileged and not relevant to the claim. She also states that the request is broad and lacks specificity.
Konjore has been transferred to Gobabis.
In a separate matter, an unemployed man in Gobabis has alleged that Konjore ordered him to pay maintenance costs of about N$80,000 and issued multiple warrants for his arrest.
The Judiciary says it has not received an official complaint; however, NBC News has since learned that the man has filed a formal complaint against the magistrate.
