The man accused of killing a five-year-old boy over the Easter long weekend, Erick !Kharugub (34), has allegedly confessed to investigating officers, detailing in gruesome detail how he killed his minor victim.

!Kharugub allegedly stated in his confession that he picked up the boy by his legs and hit him against the ground several times.

He made his first appearance in the Windhoek Magistrate's Court on Tuesday morning.

!Kharugub faces charges of murder and assault following the death of Romeo Pienaar, the grandson of Maria Pienaar (45), with whom he was in a romantic relationship for six months.

According to court documents, the accused allegedly unlawfully and intentionally killed the minor child by grabbing him by the legs and repeatedly hitting his head against the ground, resulting in his death.

On the same day, he also assaulted his girlfriend and allegedly threatened to cut her heart out.

!Kharugub appeared briefly in court, where the charge was read to him. He indicated he would conduct his own defence and told the court that he would not apply for bail.

The matter was postponed to 10 June for further police investigations. He remains in custody.
