Eight unemployed youth have received media training through the Nyae Nyae Media Club in Tsumkwe.

The programme initially started with 15 young people in September 2022.

Participants were trained to gather information through research and interviews and disseminate community stories from the Nyae Nyae Conservancy.

Recently, a new group of eight young people was added and trained in various skills.

They received theoretical training in media and journalism, interview techniques and script writing, with another training on media equipment yet to come.

A media trainer, Levi Katire, informed NBC News that the response from the new intake has been positive.

Katire explained that the goal is for these individuals to gain skills that will allow them to be absorbed into other institutions.

He further highlighted the success of the programme by citing a former member who is now freelancing for NBC !Ah Radio in Tsumkwe, as well as two others who secured employment with the conservancy.

''There is a need to spread more information within the community and also to engage the community on the issues or matters of community importance. So than they resolved to establish a media club. So in 2022 I came around and we trained a pool of young people, that time we trained 15 young people who were than the founding members of the media club,so that's were the media club basically started and  to date we have been coming back and forth to actually do some trainings to enhance the skills of this young people for them to be able to produce content," he said.

|'Asa Ghauz, one of the participants, expressed satisfaction with the training.

Ghauz stated that the skills she acquired would enable her to bring community stories to light.

''Everything I learned here, I will never forget, even if I go back home now I will go take out my note book and go through  everything I wrote down. Today we learned alot of things. I also learned how to conduct enterviews like the way you are intervening me now, it was a great experience," she said.

Another trainee, Debe Kashe, noted that the training was challenging initially but became easier as the days progressed.

The participants also received training on the advantages and disadvantages of AI.

They were introduced to Gemini AI, a topic that generated significant interest.

However, they were cautioned that information must remain factual and accurate.

According to Katire, the long-term goal of the programme is to produce high quality stories that can be contributed and aired on other platforms.
