The Namibia School Sport Union (NSSU) has been directed to review its constitution to ensure alignment with current national and regional policies. The directive was issued during the union's Annual General Meeting (AGM), which was held this past Saturday at The Dome in Swakopmund.

The current constitution, which has not been amended since 2013, has been identified as outdated and no longer in line with contemporary governance frameworks. The Namibia Sport Commission (NSC) has formally requested that the union undertake a comprehensive review to reflect current practices.

Chief Administrator of the Namibia Sport Commission, Freddy Mwiya, emphasized the necessity of the update to ensure the organization remains adaptable."It is time for the organisation to make changes. The 2013 constitution is not aligned with the current frameworks. There is a need to review it. The environment is changing, and the organisation must also adapt."

In response to the directive, the newly elected NSSU Chairperson, Given //Gowaseb, confirmed that the process is already moving forward with the appointment of a specialized drafting committee."Our constitution is a document that must adapt to current conditions. We have appointed a drafting committee to review it and ensure alignment with national and regional policies, and to improve service delivery to learners."

Other board members expressed their support for the review, noting the potential for systemic improvements."If the constitution is amended, it will allow for changes in areas that require improvement and ensure alignment with current practices," one member noted. "We will begin the process as soon as possible, using available frameworks to ensure compliance with the Namibia Sport Commission."

The AGM, which brought together representatives from all 14 regions of the country, marks a pivotal moment for the union as it seeks to modernize its operations and enhance its support for school sports development.
