Vice President Lucia Witbooi has reaffirmed government support for the green hydrogen sector.

Witbooi said this during her brief visit to the Hyphen Energy office at Lüderitz.

Witbooi was accompanied by the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform, Inge Zaamwani; Deputy Minister of Industries, Mines and Energy, Gaudentia Khrone; Health and Social Services Deputy Minister, Suzan Ndjaleka; as well as ||Kharas Governor Dawid Gertze.

She visited several projects, including Tsau ||Khaeb National Park, Springbok Land Parcel, and Angra Point near Lüderitz.

The Vice President noted that the projects reflect the magnitude of the journey Namibia is undertaking towards future growth and transformation.

"The project is being developed within Namibian law under a transparent and structured agreement with the government and in full alignment with Namibia's national development priorities."

She said the coastline that was once seen as remote is now at the centre of a global opportunity.

Witbooi stated that Namibia today stands at the threshold of a new economic frontier, saying the green hydrogen strategy is not an abstract policy but a national pathway to job creation, economic diversification and inclusive growth.

Given these benefits, Witbooi, however, said such developments should not negatively affect the environment and cultural heritage.

"The success of the project will ultimately be measured not only in megawatts or export volumes but in the lives it changes. I am pleased by the work being done in this sector to drive participation by Namibians through skills development, enterprises, supplier development and local content participation."

At one of the sites, Minister Zaamwani highlighted the economic benefits for Namibia's industrialisation.

"They are telling us also that by June this year, they should have connected enough data for them to go on to the next phase of the designs and development. But overall, what this project does in terms of the multiplier effects on the economy is far beyond the local economy of Lüderitz."
