The Minister of Urban and Rural Development, James Sankwasa, has announced Aruvita Kayoka as the Hompa of the Gciriku Traditional Authority.
Sankwasa made the announcement at the Gciriku Traditional Authority's headquarters at Ndiyona in Kavango East.
"The purported nomination by Felix Muraghuli by the late Chief Kassian Siyambi as the successor is disputed, given all the customary law and practices evidence and statutory precedents and therefore is set aside. On the basis of this, my office approves Kayoka as the new chief of the VaGciriku," said Sankwasa.
The announcement puts an end to the infighting which has been going on within the royal family for the position of Hompa for at least seven years.
Sankwasa says his decision was based on the traditional and customary law of succession when it comes to the VaGciriku people.
According to the traditional and customary law of succession of the VaGciriku, chieftainship is derived from the mother's side, and a Hompa is appointed by traditional elders or advisors.
These advisors are those who are well-versed in the lineage of the Gciriku chieftainship.
The Chieftainship is a permanent appointment, and another person will only be elected upon the ruling Hompa's death.
