Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform, Ruthy Masake, urged young people in the Oshana Region to become champions in agriculture to combat unemployment and contribute to national food security.

Speaking at a youth agricultural engagement in Oshakati, Masake highlighted government efforts to promote youth-led agribusiness, agro-processing, and value addition, aligned with NDP6.

“NDP6 calls for a shift from subsistence to commercial, climate-smart production. The Swapo Party manifesto supports expanding youth access to land, water, affordable finance, and practical skills. We want agriculture and fisheries to be attractive, profitable, modern, and future-proof for Namibia’s youth,” she said.

Oshana Governor Hofni Iipinge echoed the call, noting that agriculture has evolved through innovation, technology, and entrepreneurship, presenting unique opportunities for youth leadership.

Raina Augustus, CEO of Kalinasho Trading and Enterprises, encouraged young entrepreneurs to start small and grow their businesses, emphasizing resilience and empathy.

“I am excited about government efforts to provide opportunities. Success comes not from connections but from resilience and creating value for the community,” she said.
