President Cyril Ramaphosa has arrived in Botswana on a two-day state visit.

Ramaphosa and President Duma Boko will co-chair the 6th session of the Botswana-South Africa Bi-National Commission (BNC) tomorrow.

According to a Botswana communique, the BNC is expected to culminate in the signing of bilateral agreements and memoranda of understanding in areas such as water management, energy, correctional and prison services, tourism, science and innovation.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of International Relations, Thuso Ramodimoosi, said the BNC provides a perfect platform to further strengthen the strategic alliance that exists between the two countries in socio-economic and regional integration matters.

"This meeting follows the mid-term review of the fifth session of the BNC held in Gaborone in November 2023 and virtually in July 2024. During that engagement or those engagements, we collectively agreed to accelerate progress on all outstanding issues across key pillars of our cooperation, namely political and diplomatic relations, economic cooperation, defence and security, as well as social and cultural exchanges. It is pleasing to note that numerous exchanges continue to take place between our respective ministries and departments."

Botswana and South Africa enjoy strong and longstanding bilateral relations, with cooperation spanning all sectors of the economy, with the regional economic powerhouse remaining Botswana's largest trading partner and a key strategic cohort in regional integration.
