Meatco on Friday announced that it has achieved a Blue Rating in a Woolworths Food Safety Audit, a development expected to strengthen the company's efforts to supply premium Namibian beef products to one of southern Africa's leading retail chains.
Meatco, in a media statement, noted that the audit was conducted by independent auditors AVUTOM Consultants on 10 and 11 June 2026.
It evaluated Meatco's production processes, food safety systems, documentation, traceability controls and animal welfare practices against Woolworths supplier requirements and South African red meat industry standards.
According to Meatco, the achievement marks an important step in expanding its relationship with Woolworths and enhancing opportunities for Namibian beef products in premium retail markets.
Meatco Interim Chief Executive Officer, Albertus Aochamub, said the Blue Rating reflects the company's commitment to maintaining high food safety and operational standards.
Aochamub noted that the certification supports Meatco's strategy of moving beyond bulk beef exports towards consumer-ready products packaged in smaller retail portions to better meet market demand.
The company said the audit forms part of its broader commitment to food safety, animal welfare, product integrity and continuous improvement.
