Community members turned up in large numbers to support learners from different schools during the Tsumkwe Primary and Secondary Schools Cluster Cultural Festival.
The winners of the competition will join the winners from the Mangetti Dune Cluster to represent the constituency at the regional cultural competition.
The festival opened with a performance by the Tsumkwe Nyae Nyae Cultural Group, opening the day with a celebration of culture and tradition.
A member of the Nyae Nyae Cultural Group, Xoa||a Gxao, praised the learners for showing their cultural heritage and stressed the importance of passing traditions from one generation to the next.
"I am very happy to see the learners performing and learning about their culture. It is very important to teach young people about their traditions so that our culture does not die. As elders, we have the responsibility to pass this knowledge on to the younger generation so that it continues into the future."
The competition aims to promote cultural awareness, develop talent, and encourage healthy participation among learners.
Tsumkwe Constituency Councillor Petrus Mutji urged learners to remain proud of their cultural identity.
"I urge all learners to remain proud of your roots. Do not let the modern world erase the deep wisdom and unique identity of our people. Use education as a tool to uplift our communities and create local economic opportunities."
He also encouraged the learners to respect their elders, listen to their stories, and confidently carry their traditions into the future.
With few boys participating in cultural activities, NBC News spoke to Kalenga Jo|o, a learner from the Tsumkwe Secondary School San Cultural Group.
"You have to be proud of your tribe if you want to join your cultural group. I think some boys are shy to expose their bodies because of our traditional attire. But I am proud of myself, and I will continue taking part in cultural activities."
In the primary school category, the Tsumkwe Primary School San Cultural Group emerged as the winners, while the Tsumkwe Secondary School Kavango Cultural Group claimed first place in the secondary school category.
