Three homeless men who had been sleeping under a tree in the Tsumkwe settlement for nearly ten years have received much-needed support after a report by NBC News highlighted their living conditions.

The Tsumkwe Constituency Councillor Petrus Mutji appealed to local stakeholders and businesses to assist the three men in securing decent shelter.

Responding to the call, Tsumkwe General Dealer Service Station donated 21 zinc films and a door frame valued at N$4,600 to help build a shelter for the beneficiaries.

The manager of Tsumkwe General Dealer service station, Richard Mayumbelo, handed over the donation.

"I would like to express our gratitude for being part of this meaningful occasion. Today we honoured supporting a member of our community by donating building materials that are worth N$4600.00 for them to put up a decent structure to assist in the construction of shelter and provide hope for a better future. As a business, we believe that our responsibility extends beyond serving customers; we wish the beneficiary every success in completing their new home."

Councillor Mutji said he is pleased with the donation made by Tsumkwe General Dealer and appealed to other business owners to also come forward with donations so that the structure can be completed.

He added that poles are still needed, as well as people to construct the house, who will be paid for their work.

"We really like to thank the general dealer Tsumkwe for the generous donations that they have given to our people. I know that they have not only donated in this part; I know they have donated in sports as well, so they are doing quite very well. Thank you very much for your support." 

"I am very happy about this donation. The other two are not here at the moment, but once they return, I will tell them that we will finally be sleeping in a room instead of outside. We will also take good care of it," expressed a beneficiary, Kxao G|ago.
