The Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts, and Culture has officially closed the Ebenezer Royal Primary School.

This follows investigations when seven counts of rape, allegedly involving minors at its hostel, surfaced.

The school has reportedly been operating on an on-and-off basis.

Oshikoto Education Director, Hilma George-Nuunyango told NBC News that the matter has become a closed chapter.

Learners who previously attended the school were successfully placed at state schools close to their homes, while some parents preferred enrolling their children elsewhere.

The Director said the ministry only inspects schools that are operating legally and are on its database.

Hence, the school that has been operating illegally since 2022 could not be traced.

Education Director of the Oshikoto Region Hilma George-Nuunyango explained.

"Parents should not enroll their children in just any private school. They should first ask to see the school’s official registration certificate to confirm that it is registered with the Ministry."

The school's former school administrator, Frans Johannes, is expected to make his second appearance in the Omuthiya Magistrates' Court on 12 October after being charged with seven counts of rape three weeks ago.

Johannes is accused of raping minors aged between five and ten on different occasions at the school hostel where his wife was employed as a matron.
