The Electoral Commission of Zambia has lifted the suspension of vote counting after concerns of security and threats to some poll agents. 

All was going on well until some candidates declared themselves winners. 

For this reason, some sympathisers went barbaric and attempted to take over the running of public infrastructure such as markets and bus stops. 

Law enforcement agencies moved in and normalised the situation, particularly in the Lusaka business district. 

By then the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) had already suspended the voter counting, a constitutional act as a remedy. 

However, about six hours later, the suspension has been lifted. 

Electoral Commission of Zambia Chairperson Mwangala Zaloumis said, "Early this afternoon, the commission issued the statement informing the nation of its decision to suspend with immediate effect the counting of ballots. We are pleased to announce that the suspension of the counting and announcing of the results has been lifted further; the first announcement will be done tonight at 22 hours."

Meanwhile, President Hakainde Hichilema has called on political party leaders to desist from inciting their cadres and wait for the official results to be announced by the Electoral Commission of Zambia.
