This week, members of the Oshana Nampol Sports Club gathered at the Ondangwa base for a briefing ahead of the 29th edition of the annual Nampol Championship tournament.

The briefing was led by Commissioner Andreas Shipingana Shilelo as the team prepares for the championship, which is scheduled to take place in Swakopmund next week.

During the briefing, prominent Namibian businessman and former soldier Mr Banda donated a cow to help provide food for participants during the championship.

Afterwards, members moved to the sports fields, where friendly preparatory matches were played between Oshana Nampol and the Namibia Defence Force in football, as well as netball.

A total of nine sporting codes will be contested, with an estimated 1,800 police officers, including officials from 14 regions, expected to participate in what promises to be a colourful and competitive event.

NBC Sport spoke to team manager Victor Nghilengwa, who described the team’s preparations and encouraged the public to support their respective regions.

“We received a donation from one of our stakeholders, Mr Banda, who donated a cow. We are also using these friendly matches to prepare our regional teams for the 29th annual police championship in Swakopmund.”

“The atmosphere is vibrant, and the team spirit is high. The public should come out and support their regions because it is going to be a very competitive and exciting event.”

Meanwhile, Oshana Nampol captain Mathias Uyepa spoke about the team’s preparations and readiness for the competition.

“This football match is part of our preparations for the upcoming police championship in Swakopmund. These are friendly games to help us prepare.”

“The team is ready. We have been preparing for almost four weeks, starting with fitness training and then moving into ball work. Swakopmund must be ready for us.”

Senior staff officer Petrus Mundjele from the Namibia Army School of Artillery also spoke about preparations for the upcoming NDF Games tournament in Grootfontein.

“The main purpose of this tournament is to sharpen our teams, identify weaknesses and build cohesion. We are trying to maximise the limited training time we have to ensure the players are fit and ready.”

“These games also help to strengthen unity, discipline and teamwork between the two organisations.”

The 29th edition of the annual Nampol Championship tournament will run from 18 to 29 August in Swakopmund, Erongo Region.
