President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah will use Namibia’s participation in the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA81) to call for renewed commitment to multilateralism, dialogue and the peaceful resolution of international disputes.

The Head of State said this ahead of her departure to New York today for UNGA81. She stressed that the country’s position is guided by the Constitution, which provides for the resolution of international disputes through negotiation.

The President stressed that negotiation requires consensus, which in turn is built through multilateral engagement.

Nandi-Ndaitwah’s position comes at a time when the multilateral system faces growing pressure amid continuing conflicts, economic uncertainty and climate change.

Despite these challenges, Namibia, she said, maintains that member states must continue working collectively to strengthen multilateralism.

Nandi-Ndaitwah is scheduled to deliver Namibia’s national statement on 23 September during the General Debate, held under the theme, “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations That Delivers for All.”

Her participation will also focus on peace and security, economic transformation, climate resilience, youth empowerment and sustainable development.
