The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform (MAFWLR), with support from the African Development Bank, has constructed sanitation facilities for six schools in the Zambezi Region at a cost of N$5,6 million. 

The construction was undertaken under the Namibia Water Sector Support Programme. 

Its coordinator, Heiki Hamunyela, said the programme is implemented around three strategic components aimed at improving access to water and sanitation.

"Attached to the Zambezi region, worth noting is the recent awarding of the Katima Ngoma water supply scheme phase 3 and 4 contract at N$184 million. In addition, the programme is also busy finalising the construction of the Kongola Gate Post sanitation facility, with a completion progress rate of about 98%."

In a speech delivered on his behalf, the Ministry's Executive Director, Teofilus Nghitila, said facilities marked the government's commitment to improving the quality of life for the citizens.

"Such infrastructure delivery is demonstrating that the government is taking giant steps to eradicate, or rather to eliminate, in the country and also moving forward to achieving a vision of 2030 on universal access to sanitation, water and hygiene."

Kongola Constituency Councillor Bennety Busihu welcomed the gesture.

"the general assembly when it comes to the United Nations declaration on the rights of indigenous people, whereas the Masambo community was also identified as part of it, we really appreciate all these interventions that we are there to uplift the livelihood of our people and maintain their dignity and also their well-being."
