Alba Chipamba Training Centre has launched its first cultural festival at Rundu with the theme "Celebrity, Diversity, Embracing Unity".
The aim is to bring all students to showcase mixed culture diversity, share values and strengthen unity among each other.
Kavango East Governor Hamunyera Hambyuka encouraged the students to embrace cultural diversity and unite in the spirit of 'One Namibia, One Nation'.
"To celebrate diversity is to understand that no culture is a museum piece. It is a living classroom. Our food, our proverbs, our artefacts, our dress, our songs – these are not costumes we wear once a year. They are answers to questions like, "How do we live? How do we mourn? How do we rejoice? How do we belong?"
Students were urged to embrace their cultures at all times.
The shareholder of the Alba Chipamba Training Center stated, "Culture is the foundation of human society that shapes our shared identity, values and daily behaviour."
Hompa Sofia Mundjembwe of the vaShambyu Traditional Authority added, "It is important to note that people's cultural diversity is often characterised by the language they speak and their cultural attire. For instance, in our tribe, we wear attires made from animal skin."
Participants Audrey Fibions, John Ndoko and Liina Taapopi had this to say.
"We should learn to embrace our culture, and people should not be embarrassed to share our culture. As much as I got a dress the way I did today, it is because I want the other people that have never been to Zimbbawe to come see my culture."
"All the cultures should show us their dancing styles, their food type, their attire, and what is most important is about their culture."
"We have chicken, we have goat meat, we have pap, we have potato salad, we have hot dogs and extra."
