The Office of the Governor of Oshikoto has donated a 10,000-litre water tank to a family at Ashipepe in the Eengodi Constituency. The donation follows a request for access to clean water from a resident whose children live with ectodermal dysplasia, a rare condition affecting the skin, sweat glands, hair, nails and teeth. The condition requires the children to have regular access to clean water.
"After NBC News broke the story of Indileni Haidula, her plea for help has received a response. We are back at Ashipepe village in the Oshikoto region to see what has changed," narrated report Charlotte Nambadja.
The Governor, Sacky Kathindi, visited the family on Wednesday.
"The government is working on drilling boreholes to cater for the community in the constituency; however, due to your urgent situation, we are providing a 10 000-litre water tank for your family. I urge you to use the water for its intended purpose and use it sparingly and responsibly. The rural water supply and NamWater officials will be refilling the tank when it needs a refill."
The family says they are relieved to finally have access to a reliable source of water after years of struggling.
"We are grateful for responding to our plea. "I have been digging wells trying to get water underneath the depth of the ground, but it was a struggle. Now we no longer have to struggle," expressed beneficiary Gabriel Thomas.
"I feel very good that I finally received water for my family. This was made possible by the governor. Thank you so much," said Mother Indileni Haidula.
Good Samaritans have also come forward to assist with essential needs.
For Haidula and her children, the response means hope and joy after many years of struggle, while their needs remain. Help is reaching a family that once felt forgotten.
