Preparations for the 2027 Nedbank Namibian Newspaper Cup are already underway, with regional netball management identifying young talent to construct a competitive Under-19 squad.

The early selection initiative aims to provide players with sufficient time to train together and build cohesive team dynamics ahead of the national tournament.

The regional leadership is assembling a 25-player provisional training squad. The setup will feature 18 players selected during recent trials at A Shipena Secondary School, alongside seven returning players from last year's setup who remain age-eligible for the Under-19 category.

Regional Chairperson Dimitri Bitler explained that initiating trials prior to the upcoming school examination period allows the technical department to establish a working squad well in advance, ensuring full-scale training can resume immediately in January following the holiday break.

The talent search also highlighted encouraging depth among younger athletes, with several trialists falling into lower age brackets.

Technical Director David Faustinus noted that the current player pool displays exceptional quality, highlighting that the high proportion of Under-17 players, complemented by returning members from the existing Comets squad, provides a strong foundation and long-term continuity for the region's netball development programme.

With structured training scheduled to commence in January, the technical team will utilize the extended timeframe to test tactical combinations, refine player synergy, and finalize the core squad for the 2027 competition.
