Aroab Village Council aims to improve residents' living standard over the next five years through better service delivery, revenue diversification and initiatives to grow the local economy.

The Village Council Chief Executive Officer, Simasiku Maketo, revealed this whilst outlining the Village Council's strategic plans.

The council's strategic plan focuses on pillars of financial sustainability, basic service delivery, local economic development and digital transformation, amongst others.

It aims to increase revenue collection by 5% yearly, strengthen debt collection and introduce additional income-generating initiatives.

Additionally, it aims to improve water security, expand serviced residential and commercial land, support small businesses and attract investment to create more economic opportunities.

"The vision is to be a self-sustaining, high-performing local authority that will deliver accountable governance, inclusive growth and sustainable social development for residents, and our mission for the next five years is to deliver transparent, accountable quality municipal services that will improve the living standard and the well-being of our residents."

Maketo stated that the village council, which largely depends on farming, has been hard at work with revenue diversification that includes guesthouse rentals, transport services, livestock farming, gardening, and agricultural land leasing.

||Kharas Governor Dawid Gertze commended the village strategic plan.

"This strategic plan should therefore not only focus on infrastructure and administration; it should also contribute to an environment in which enterprises can grow, skills can be developed and local people can participate in sustainable economic activities. Local content and reliable basic services are fundamental to every Namibian, most particularly to every member of the Aroab Community."

He called for collaboration between the council and development partners to ensure the successful implementation of a plan for the well-being of residents.
