Church leaders, government officials, and hundreds of community members gathered along the B1 bridge in the capital for Namibia's National Road Prayer.

The prayer was organised by the Council of Churches in Namibia as a call for safe travel.

Christians across the country gathered at various places of worship to observe Ascension Day, commemorating the ascension of Jesus Christ into heaven, 40 days after His resurrection.

Acting Chief of News and Programming at the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC), Sackie Shikufa, said Namibia's high media freedom ranking should not lead to complacency.

The Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Emma Theofelus, has confirmed that the government is actively working to establish the Office of the Information Commissioner in line with the implementation of Namibia's Access to Information Act.
