As the country prepares to commemorate Heroes Day on 26 August, NBC caught up with former PLAN combatant Bartholomeus Shangheta.

Those who fought on the frontline of the battlefield, such as former PLAN combatant Ndeulikufa Kalomoh, recollected his fond memories of Sam Nujoma.

Kalomoh, whose combat name is Hakushinda, was 20 years old when he fled from Namibia into Angola to join the liberation struggle in 1974.

President Hage Geingob has conferred a state funeral on the late liberation struggle stalwart, Hilde Kapitaholo Amunyela.

Amunyela died on the 25th of January, aged 89.
