A contractor has blocked a sewerage pond at Max Makushe Secondary School in the Kavango East Region due to what they regard as outstanding payments by the Ministry of Education, Arts, and Culture.

The school has since suspended classes due to sewerage overflow.

Residents of Kavango West Region say they waited for far too long for the completion of the Nkurenkuru Intermediate Hospital, whose construction has been on hold for almost 10 years now. 

The Hambukushu Community in the Kavango East Region's Mukwe Constituency is against the designation of a Khwe Chief at Bwabwata National Park.

This comes after the Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Erastus Uutoni, approved the appointment of a Khwe Chief.

Two minors drowned in an open pit at Rundu today while playing in the water.

The children accompanied their mother, who had gone to the swamp for fishing.

According to the mother, Franciska Hausiku, she left her three children under a tree near one of the open pits while she moved on to the next.

Four minors from Livaye Village in Kavango East who died from suspected food poisoning were buried in a mass grave over the weekend.

Eight children initially ate the food, of whom four died and the others survived, while the remaining four were discharged.

The incident happened on February 26.

Employees of Kayova Lodge and the community in Kavango East are demanding the removal of the lodge's manager.

They claim that the management has diverted from the project's initial plan, from which the community was due to benefit.

Education is often referred to as the key to a successful future, and it is compulsory for a Namibian child.

Before independence, it was an achievement in the Kavango Region for one to produce good results. Schools in the Kavango Region were constructed based on traditional jurisdictions.

As Namibia celebrates 34 years of independence, the Kavango West is also celebrating 10 years since it was declared an independent region. 

Residents of the Suncity location at Rundu have been without running water for months. 

They have now resorted to collecting water from the supply lines found above the ground. 

The Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety, and Security started with its outreach programme for the distribution of national documents in the Kavango East Region.

The programme aims to issue a national document to people in outlying areas who face challenges travelling to Rundu for services.
