A major breakthrough in Namibia's health sector is unfolding in the northern regions of Namibia, where the country’s first modern Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is nearing completion at the Intermediate Hospital Oshakati.

The Ministry of Health and Social Services has taken a major step forward in the fight against tuberculosis with the introduction of artificial intelligence-powered portable chest X-ray machines. 

Mental health has emerged as one of Namibia's most pressing public health challenges, with rising cases of depression, anxiety, and suicide, especially among young people.

According to the World Health Organisation, Namibia currently ranks 11th globally and 4th in Africa for suicide rates.

Southern African countries concluded a three-day meeting in Windhoek to accelerate the establishment of national public health institutes in their respective countries. 

The 3rd Southern Africa Annual National Public Health Institutes meeting was organised by the Africa Centre for Disease Control.
