Agribank has announced a new Arrears Relief Rollout Programme aimed at assisting farmers who struggle with loan repayments.

The president of the Popular Democratic Movement (PDM), McHenry Venaani, said farmers who want to buy land through Agribank are finding it difficult to access land, taking them up to six months.

He explained that this is because people selling land are only willing to do so through commercial banks.

The Livestock and Livestock Products Board is urging livestock producers and stakeholders to take proactive measures to protect the foot and mouth disease-free zone. 

The government has allocated N$2.56 billion to the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform for the 2025/2026 financial year.

In 2024 alone, the region recorded 365 stock theft-related cases, prompting law enforcement to engage directly with farming communities.

Farmers in the Zambezi Region are appealing for government support following the devastating loss of their cattle to lightning strikes.

For many of these farmers, cattle are their primary source of livelihood, and the recent incidents have left them in urgent need of assistance to recover.
