Six police officers are among eight people arrested for the alleged smuggling of police firearms, following a tip-off from South African authorities about weapons from Namibia being used in gang violence in the Western Cape. The suspects appeared in the Windhoek Regional Court.

President Nangolo Mbumba has reappointed Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo as Inspector General of the Namibian Police for a period of three years. 

The appointment is with effect from 1 October 2024 to 30 September 2027.

It is also the month where police officers from various parts of the country gathered in Rundu for a five-day basic sign language course.

Protesters demand justice for Okahandja police shooting victims
