Over 10,000 firearms, ammunition magazines, and explosive ordinances have been surrendered to the Namibian Police over the past three years.

Police spokesperson Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi made this announcement when she announced the annual amnesty period, which commenced at the start of September.

Citizens and residents are expected to surrender any illegal and unwanted arms, ammunition, and armaments to their nearest police station across the country.

Those who surrender such weapons will not face any prosecution, says Shikwambi.

She further stated that the initiative is a critical step towards enhancing public safety and ensuring a peaceful environment for all.

The amnesty period will run until September 30.
