Residents of Queen Sofia Farm are optimistic that 2025 will bring adequate rains following the drought of the past two years.

Situated in the Kunene Region, Queen Sofia is made up of five resettlement farms.

The project was started in 2000 with each household getting cattle and three goats from the government.

Queen Sofia Development Committee's Chairperson Elias |Narib said there was a time when they had 25 cattle per household, which is the carrying capacity of the kraals.

However, due to persistent drought, livestock per household has reduced.

"Especially this year, I lost more than six cattle, the elder ones, but I'm sitting with the young ones. Maybe for this year they will survive and give me again to carry on with the farming."

Despite receiving 0.25 hectares per household for farming, some families have not yet prepared the land.

"Let's work very hard to make food for ourselves. Let's not wait for the government to provide us with food. When we receive rain, we have to work hard to give food to our families."
