Media Ombudsman John Nakuta said that NAMDIA and the police are dealing with a complex situation, which begs for accurate and verified information.

Dr. Nakuta, however, said the communication strategy of the two institutions leaves much to be desired.

He expressed regret over the failure to share timely information, which only facilitates the spread of misinformation.

Nakuta underscored that access to information is a fundamental right for all citizens, placing an obligation on public institutions like NAMDIA and NamPol to proactively disclose relevant details. This is particularly crucial in the context of the alleged heist involving national resources, which belong to all citizens.

Therefore, he said it is vital for the public to be informed about what transpired, as journalists also have the right to receive and disseminate this knowledge.
