The Bank of Namibia hosted a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics expo to showcase innovative ideas by learners from various schools throughout the country.
The initiative that started in 2023 continues to demonstrate dedication towards fostering creativity and readiness for future technological breakthroughs.
The Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) fields are crucial in preparing students for the technological workforce, showcasing the talents and achievements of learners.
According to the Deputy Executive Director at the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture, Edda Bohn, STEAM education empowers learners to not only become job seekers but also job creators.
This is particularly the case for those with the potential to develop innovative solutions to Namibia's most pressing challenges.
"As we gather here today, we are reminded of the profound impact that STEAM education has on shaping the nation's trajectory. In today's rapidly evolving world, where technology drives economies and innovation dictates progress, Namibia cannot afford to lag behind. Undeniably, the future belongs to those who can think critically, solve complex problems, and innovate, and these are precisely the skills that STEAM education nurtures in our students."
Deputy Governor at the Bank of Namibia, Leonie Dunn, reiterated that the initiative is rooted in the belief that every Namibian child should have access to quality education through these emerging technologies.
This is to further foster critical thinking and problem-solving and find solutions to challenges they face in their communities.
"This expo serves as a beacon of innovation and creativity, embodying our collective vision to equip Namibian learners with the skills needed to shape our country's future. And it is more than just shaping our county's future; it is to give them a place of belonging in this technologically disruptive world we are living in every day."
Dunn urged all strategic partners to join the Bank of Namibia in empowering youth in the digital era.
