The Ministers of Defence of SADC and EAC have been directed to meet within 30 days to deliberate on the establishment of a secretariat-level technical coordination mechanism.

This mechanism is expected to monitor the implementation of the joint summit decisions.

The ministers are to further discuss an elaborate roadmap detailing the immediate, medium, and long-term implementation measures, including financing modalities, and make appropriate recommendations to the next joint summit.

The SADC and EAC leaders called for the implementation of the Concept of Operations of the harmonised plan.

The harmonised plan advocates for the neutralisation of the rebel group, FDLR, and the lifting of Rwanda's defensive measures and disengagement of forces from the DRC as agreed under the Luanda process.

The joint summit of SADC and EAC leaders was held in Tanzania's Dar es Salaam, in a bid to address the ongoing armed conflict in eastern DRC.

DRC is a member of both regional blocs.
