The University of Namibia (UNAM) celebrated Heritage Day to promote and strengthen cultural identity, traditions and diversity among the students. 

The event highlighted the significance of unity, respect, acknowledgement and appreciation of different cultures in Namibia. 

The School of Humanities, Society and Development hosted the 5th edition of Heritage Day under "Okupwika ovirumatwa vyombazu yetu nga kozonditona zoruyaveze", in Otjiherero, which loosely translates to "preserving heritage for the future generations, today".

Associate Dean of the School of Humanities, Society and Development, Dr Wilhelm Uutoni, encouraged attendees to embrace not only their own culture but also to experience and celebrate other cultures. He emphasised the importance of sharing knowledge and learning vernacular languages.

French Senior Lecturer Aurelie Zannier-Wahengo emphasised the importance of youth being self-aware and proud of their cultural heritage.

Psychology student at the University of Namibia, Saara Shomongula, stated that Heritage Day provides a platform for showcasing different cultures and languages. This inspired her to learn Mandarin.
