President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah says the government will continue to look into the plight of those affected by the floods until they can stand on their feet.

This is to ensure that they are able to fend for themselves, as the mahangu fields and houses were submerged, dashing all hopes of a bumper harvest until the next rainy season.

Dr. Nandi-Ndaitwah's next stop from Omusati was the Oshana region, where she toured the government's food storage facility at Embadu.

She then made her final stop at the Ehenye flood relocation centre, where she said the government will continue to provide the much-needed support to those affected by the floods.

The president was quick to caution against opportunists who would want to benefit from the various services provided there at the expense of those in dire need.

"Let the councillors document the most affected; they should not be the ones to come and say, 'I am also affected.' Councillors, go out and get us the correct figures that are authentic. I don't want people who are not affected to be part of that list because this hinders government plans to assist those who are truly in need. Those who don't want to work for your sustainability are not happy, as we want to foster a culture of self-dependency, especially from our crop fields."

The Ehenye relocation centre is accommodating a total of one thousand three hundred and seventy-seven people from Oshoopala and Onawa locations, totaling 398 households.

Oshana regional Governor Elia Irimari briefed the President that a total of six schools remain closed.

Fifteen others that were affected have since reopened.

Irimari also revealed that seventeen drowning incidents have been recorded and various roads damaged by the floodwaters, causing a delay in the distribution of drought relief food.

"The region has food in its silos; even if it's not enough, we still have some. We also have been distributing to those in need so that our people do not die of hunger. We still have challenges such as a lack of sufficient mosquito nets, as there are not enough for everyone. We need assistance in this regard, but we remain committed to providing interventions that promptly address the needs of the affected people."

However, Irimari says all nine roads that were previously inaccessible are now operational, and food and medical relief to those in isolation is ongoing.

The set-up of the relocation centre and the distribution of seventeen thousand five hundred water purification tablets across the region's eleven constituencies are expected to start on Tuesday.
