The parish pastor at the Roman Catholic Church in Wanaheda described Pope Francis' death as a huge loss.
Dr. Wilhelm Eita says although the Pope has been sick for a while, they were hopeful he would get better and continue leading the church.
"We know he was sick and died due to bilateral pneumonia. Although he was sick, his death came as a shock to us. Because he was recovering, we thought and were hoping that he would get better to continue leading the church. He was appearing now and then, you know, to greet the people."
Pastor Eita further said the Namibian Catholic Churches will remember the life and legacy of the pope through masses .
"In Namibia we have to talk about the Bishop conference. We have three dioceses: the Diocese of Windhoek, Keetmanshoop and the one in Rundu. So, there has to be a collective effort in remembering him, and this is usually done through what is called the Namibian Bishop Conference. So this will give a guideline to all the dioceses in observing the mourning period. The parishioners will also celebrate holy masses and prayers in the intention of the soul of the holy father."
