The Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare has expressed deep concern over a disturbing incident in which a man, alleged to be the father of a minor girl, reportedly made her smoke a hookah pipe, commonly known as a hubbly bubbly.

In a statement released on Tuesday, 24 June, the ministry confirmed that the case is under active investigation by the Namibian police and assured the public that the matter is being treated with the utmost seriousness and urgency.

"The safety, health, and well-being of our children are paramount," the ministry emphasised, adding that any act endangering a child’s physical or emotional welfare is “completely unacceptable".

Strongly condemning all forms of child abuse, neglect, or exploitation, the ministry stated it is working closely with law enforcement to ensure justice is served and the child’s rights are protected.

While specific details remain confidential to protect the minor’s privacy and preserve the integrity of the investigation, the ministry reaffirmed its commitment to holding those responsible accountable and safeguarding the rights of all children in Namibia.
