More than 3,000 learners in the |Khomas Region are set to benefit from a three-day information and career guidance event.

The Namibia Qualifications Authority (NQA), together with the |Khomas Regional Council and #BeFree Youth, announced the initiative that will assist Grade 9, 11 and 12 learners to plan for their future.

The initiative, to take place between 16 and 18 July at the Sam Nujoma Stadium, aims to provide high school learners with credible, accurate information and empower them through enrolment at accredited educational bodies, including higher education and technical and vocational fields.

Harmoni Beukes explained the benefits of attending a career guidance fair. "So we are looking at having a three-day event where we want to share information with high school learners that are at that stage where they are finding themselves at a crossroads. Where do I go? What steps should I take next? Now, I don't know if any of you have spoken to any young person lately. There is just so much that they need to consider. And I think if we can help them with this one thing, to help them with the right information regarding the study part, then I think they will be set for life to take on the other parts as well."

The |Khomas Regional Director of Education, Paulus Nghikembua, highlighted the increasing importance of career guidance, pointing out its significant influence on the mental well-being of individuals.

"The role of career guidance is becoming increasingly vital due to its psychological effect on individuals. Therefore, with us, career guidance fundamentally aims to equip the youth mentally for an unpredictable future. So understanding oneself, recognising one's capabilities and having a direction in life, and psycho-social cornerstones that will set individuals on a positive and hopeful path."

By providing accurate information, learners can make well-informed decisions about their academic and career paths.
