NAMDIA has confirmed that packages of diamonds recovered by police earlier this year were officially declared, following public calls for clarity by Associate Professor Job Amupanda.
In response to NBC News' queries, NAMDIA said the declaration was communicated in a media statement released in March and that the matter remains under investigation by NAMPOL.
Whether the board-appointed security consultant, Clarky McKay, submitted tender documents on behalf of a client, NAMDIA stated that McKay relinquished ownership of the company before the application was submitted and is not listed in its documents.
NBC News also asked the diamond processing company whether any CCTV footage from the January 18 robbery had gone missing, to which the company declined to comment, saying only that the matter is sub judice and remains under police investigation.
Questioned about its emergency procurement to enhance security, NAMDIA referenced laws that allow public entities to bypass normal procurement processes during crises.
Following the February 10 suspension of senior staff, the board approved the appointment of an external security consultant to oversee security upgrades.
Asked if diamond pricing was determined by a single individual, NAMDIA confirmed that pricing is led by a Key Accounts Manager, under the supervision of the executive head of sales.
The company acknowledged the risks of centralised valuation and said it has advertised for an independent valuator to assist during the sales cycle.
NAMDIA also revealed that its production team has temporarily relocated to NDTC facilities following the robbery, with administrative functions continuing from its headquarters.
Addressing concerns about a 2022 transaction involving over 10,000 carats of diamonds valued at more than N$200 million, NAMDIA confirmed that the deal was linked to Penford, a company associated with long-standing client Livental.
At Livental's request, some invoices were issued under Penford. The company said internal reviews have since led to stronger invoicing controls.
