Parents at Mafuta Combined School in the Zambezi Region are calling for the transfer of teacher Precious Mabakeng, citing poor performance and misconduct.

Richard Kangumu, a concerned parent, said:
"We have observed and endured the following serious issues that we believe disqualify her from continuing in her position. First is consistent late coming to school without valid reason. If you were given an opportunity to come and observe, you would see that she is always coming late every day at work, which is something that is not allowed. Secondly, verbal abuse and insulting language directed to both parents and learners."

Parents further claimed that Mabakeng has not been assessing learners.

"She is qualified to teach Geography and History for Grade 8 and 9, and currently she is given Social Studies for Grade 4, which she cannot handle, and Elementary Agriculture for Grade 5 and 7, which she is also not qualified to teach," another parent stated.

Acting Inspector for the Katima Circuit, Petuho Mutabelezi, who received the petition, urged parents to be patient.

"Your concerns will be taken into consideration through the consultation of the appropriate policies that are in place, as they are stipulated in the Basic Education Act," said Mutabelezi.

When contacted, Mabakeng said she could not respond to the allegations as she is currently in Windhoek for medical reasons.

Mafuta Combined School principal, Emmanuel Phiri, has confirmed that teacher Precious Mabakeng, often reports late for duty. However, he says he is not aware of the verbal abuse claims raised by some parents.

The matter in which includes concerns over learner assessments, is currently under review.
