The Namibia-Cuba Friendship Association (NAMCUFA) has expressed opposition to a U.S. executive order to impose tariffs on countries that supply or sell oil to Cuba.

NAMCUFA Secretary General Cecelia Muzile says such actions will further worsen economic hardships for the Cuban people while forcing sovereign countries to participate in an unjust economic blockade against the island nation.

Muzile also condemned "persistent anti-Cuban propaganda, propagated by the US government," saying such rhetoric fuels hostility and undermines the possibility of genuine dialogue and cooperation.

NAMCUFA says, "It is imperative that the United States adopts a more constructive and respectful approach, recognising Cuba's right to self-determination and sovereignty."

Muzile also points out that it is time for the US government to move toward a more just and diplomatic relationship with Cuba, grounded in respect for its sovereignty and the well-being of its people.

Meanwhile, Cuba has condemned and denounced the new escalation of the US economic blockade.
