Rehoboth has secured second place in the 2025 Kwêla Town of the Year competition, hosted by the kykNET DSTV channel.

Bloemhof, located on the Gauteng/North West border in South Africa, was announced as the overall winner of this year's competition.

The Namibian town stood out as the only finalist from outside South Africa, competing against eight other towns across various provinces.

Rehoboth's second-place position was met with celebration and pride, with attendees expressing a sense of unity and motivation.

Rehoboth Mayor Justin Coetzee described the event as the beginning of something new and a source of motivation to improve and prepare for future competitions.

He noted that his office will explore budgeting for such initiatives to ensure their success and continued support.

"I still believe we can do better when it's our time; we can improve. You can hear the music playing, and you can hear the chat of the people and the laughter, and this shows you that people can come together in the best interest of their town."

Second place was more than a runner-up position; it became a symbol of possibility.

The outcome inspired the town to dream bigger, cherish its uniqueness and redouble its commitment to progress.

"This is only the start; we're going to take Rehoboth to places, and we're going to take Rehoboth to the top of the Kwela Dorp van die Jaar competition. We will be the winners in three years' time, but what this competition means for this town is immense. The overwhelming turnout tonight marked a significant milestone for Rehoboth, which we are determined to embrace."

The Kwêla Town of the Year competition is an annual contest hosted by the kykNET DSTV channel that celebrates towns with strong community spirit, cultural vibrancy and development.
