More than a hundred Nampharm employees led by the Namibian Revolutionary Transport and Manufacturing Union held a demonstration over the recent removal of employee benefits.

The demonstrators said the removal of medical aid and the 14th cheque without staff consultation was inconsiderate and burdensome.

The group handed over a petition to Nampharm demanding management schedule a meeting with employees' representatives and the union within seven days.

In the petition, the employees demanded the immediate reinstatement of the 14th cheque and the previous medical aid scheme.

The union's Commander-in-Chief, Petersen Kambinda, stressed that failure to address this request within the prescribed time will force them to take unspecified action without further notice.

“In our petition submitted to management, we stated that after seven days, if Nampharm’s response is not favourable to the workers, unspecified action will follow. The workers are prepared to wait only seven days before taking action. It is guaranteed that if the response is not favourable, they will definitely proceed with action.”

Questions sent to Nampharm via email by NBC News on Monday have not been responded to up to now.
