The Ministry of Health and Social Services has announced that the new 120-bed maternity facility at the Onandjokwe Intermediate Hospital is almost complete.

The facility will feature first-stage and second-stage rooms, a spacious reception area, a procedure room and a gynaecology theatre.

The theatre within the maternity section will reduce congestion at the hospital's main theatre and ensure that all women receive timely and quality care.

The Ministry revealed in a statement that although previous contractors had failed to deliver over the past few years, the new contractor has demonstrated excellent progress over the past few months and has committed to complete the facility by the 20th of October for the handover.

The Minister of Health and Social Services, Esperance Luvindao, said that the milestone directly aligns with the ministry's vision for April 2026, which prioritises enhancing the quality of care for all patients.

She said that state patients should use facilities that are good enough for senior government officials.

Once inaugurated, the maternity wing will be used as a benchmark for other facilities to raise the standards of care being provided.

The statement further reads that the Ministry is striving to build a future where every mother and child receive care that meets the highest standards.
