Alfred ||Khamuxab has been ordained as the new chief of the Hai||Om San Traditional Authority.

He takes the seat from his father, David ||Khamuxab, who stepped down in 2024 due to health issues.

The chief was coronated at the annual San Cultural Festival, held at Seringkop Farm in the Kunene Region.

Speaking on behalf of Vice President Lucia Witbooi, former Outjo Mayor Kleuphas Geingob said the smooth transition in leadership is a symbol of peace and progress within the community.

"On behalf of the government, I wish Alfred ||Khamuxab all the best as he assumes this very important duty of leading the community, as much as he is a young, vibrant and energetic young man. We have no doubt that you will lead the community with wisdom, integrity and a deep commitment to service."

Witbooi reaffirmed the government's support in preserving the cultures and traditions of all tribes for knowledge, norms, and practices to be passed on to future generations.

"Similarly, I would like to encourage traditional leaders and the elders in our societies to take these events as opportunities to transmit valuable knowledge, discipline, and good behaviours among our youth."

Senior councillor Karl Oaseb and Secretary General of the Hai||om Affairs Parliament, Stephanus Haneb, expressed gratitude to the outgoing 75-year-old chief.

The Hai||Om Traditional Authority was formally recognised by the government in 2004, and the community lives around the Etosha National Park as their ancestral lands.
