Some parents and guardians of learners who attend the unregistered Ndama East School in Rundu are ignoring the Ministry of Education's advice to enrol their children at formal government schools.

The parents refuse to accept the Ministry of Education's response regarding the issue.

Community Spokesperson Mathias Hausiku said, "Our children will remain here; they are not going anywhere. We are refusing because we have all the necessary documents proving that our children must attend school here. We have all the right documents for the learners who are schooling here. As the parents, we have the documents for the existence of the school. The pupils must continue their schooling here. This is where their school will be constructed; we are not moving. They should bring water and ablution facilities, as is at all other schools. The town council should know what to do."

The parents were not pleased with the response given by Edda Bohn, the Deputy Executive Director of Education.

Bohn advised parents to begin applying for placement at registered government schools to help the ministry allocate sufficient space.

She also mentioned that platoon schools could serve as an interim solution while plans are underway to construct a new school at Ndama and to add additional classrooms to existing schools.

These measures are to accommodate all learners and reduce overcrowding in classrooms.

Furthermore, Bohn urged parents to collaborate with the ministry to ensure all children receive the quality education they deserve.

Parents are concerned that their children will have to walk an additional kilometre to Ndama South, in addition to the distance they already travel.

"We have been to the director, but we did not get an answer. The minister just gave us an inaccurate answer. Now we are sending this news to the Office of the President. President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah should listen to our cry here at Ndama. If she did not get the information, we have the right information. We want the head of the nation to come to us, because if we go back to the same people who do not agree with us, we will not get help. Unless the President herself comes here, we really need her here."

The informal school has been in existence since 2022, accommodating more than 500 learners.
